The hotel was built by Architect Yehuda Magidovitch in 1925, according to the eclectic style. Eclectic architecture was extremely common in Tel Aviv in the twenties, more or less a decade before the international style ("Bauhaus") began to spread. The eclectic style was characterized by combining and merging western classical features with eastern and middle-eastern building traditions and elements. Gruzenberg Street was named after Oscar Gruzenberg (1866-1940) – a Jewish advocate, famous for evoking international interest in anti-Semitism after he managed to gain an acquittal for the Jew, Menahem Mendel Beilis, who was accused of murdering a Russian boy for ritual purposes. The street was named after Gruzenberg Immediately after the trial ended, in 1913.
