Florentine neighborhood established by Shlomo Florentine, a contractor from Salonica, during the 20's in the southern area of Tel Aviv. Towards the 60's many workshops concentrated in the neighborhood and in the 90's the low rent in the area attracted many youngsters and artists, who moved to the area. Many entrepreneurs later opened cafes, clubs and galleries in the neighborhood, which turned the neighborhood into a popular area. Standing to a height of 142 meters, Shalom tower (middle) was the city's first skyscraper and the tallest building in the Middle East at the time. The tower was built in 1965 at one end of Herzl Street, on the ruins of the "Herzliya Gymnasium" building, which was one of the most impressive and unique buildings erected in the early days of Tel Aviv.
